The best of both the science and art of psychology
WHAT IS "TEMENOS?"
"Temenos" refers to a concept from Classical Greece in which a space or portion of land would be "cut off" or separated from the surrounding area in order to preserve a felt sense of its sacredness and sanctuary. At its best, psychotherapy should be just that sort of experience - a separation from the scrutiny of everyday life for an exploration of self and healing that is nothing short of sacred.
Zach Moran, PhD

Therapy has the potential to be deeply rewarding yet people often feel very unsatisfied when they have given it a try. Either your therapist hands you a “one-size-fits-all” bag of coping skills or just sits back passively while you struggle to make sense of things by yourself. Those who have had better experiences know the feeling of a therapist who strives to meet you where you’re at and develop a plan of care that is tailored to your unique, individual situation. The value of that wonderful feeling is borne out by research suggesting that the fit between client and therapist tends to best predict good outcomes down the road.
My approach is grounded in the balance of both deeper exploration into your unique identity and practicing concrete skills for managing the feelings that will emerge as we do. I am a generalist but have special interest in treatment-resistant depression, personality, and the integration of mental health with spiritual and philosophical practices.
I’m looking forward to working with you collaboratively to develop a deeply individualized set of practices that draw from the best of both the science and art of psychology. I'm eager for opportunities to work with individuals across a diverse span of identities, cultures, and worldviews and strive to practice from a stance of cultural humility.
